Curating the best in Sacramento journalism

No one in the Sacramento region consumes as much local news content as me.

Now’s the time to filter that content into something meaningful.

The combined work of local blogs, magazines, newspapers, online media, student media and television produce more than 400 unique links each day, not to mention the steady stream of tweets from the nearly 400 local media professionals with Twitter accounts.

My goal is to identify and curate the 10 best local news stories in a weekly Sunday post.

I’ll use Storify to spotlight the best stories — not necessarily my favorites — produced by local media and stories written by national media on local interests.

(Scroll down to see a list of outlets in my coverage plan.)

In the process, I expect to…

  • listen, read and watch more stories than my current behavior leads me
  • learn more about my community
  • identify locals known on the national level
  • learn more about local media
  • become a better blogger and
  • generate a conversation about quality local journalism

I’ll miss good stories. We’ll likely disagree on the best take on a story produced by multiple outlets. You’ll debate with my rankings.

This should be a lot of fun.
